Chris Cooley, public enemy #1

I get the trash talking players do on the field. I get the trash talking that fans do off the field but for the most part, when you listen or watch and interview with a current Professional athlete you typically hear nothing but respect from that player towards any other player, even players on a rival teams.

I remember an interview with London Fletcher, LB for the Skins, just a few days after the Cowboys recent win vs the Redskins. London was very professional. He stated his disapointment in the loss and that he felt the Redskins played well enough to win but unfortunately it didn’t happen. He also commented a little on the barking of the signal that caused the Phil Costa to errantly snap the ball but he made it a non issue..   London was professionl, something I have come to expect from every NFL player..

This morning on my ride into work I hear this on the radio from Chris Cooley, the Skins TE talking about Tony Romo’s failures vs the Lions;

“It’s amazing, amazing to watch him choke like that,” Cooley said on 106.7 The Fan in Washington. “I’m just saying, (if) I’m up 24 points in the third quarter, if I’m the head coach, I feel like I could probably just take a knee for the rest of the game, punt it away and there’s no way that Detroit’s gonna drive on you that many times. The only way you’re gonna give up that many points is turnovers, right? It’s hilarious to watch him throw pick sixes, too, back to back. I loved it.”

That was weird to hear.. weird to hear a current player demise another current player like that. I get that Cooley was joking around with the radio jocks. It’s also very short sighted. Its not like Cooley is retiring next year nor is Romo. Who knows, they might be on the same team some day… Perhaps someone should remind Chris Cooley that he is not all that himself.  He can’t hold a candle to the current top 5 NFL TEs, including the Cowboys own Jason Witten and he is likely never to be reverred in the same light as Tony Romo despite Romo’s current misfortune.  Also, can someone remind Chris Cooley that even though Tony Romo choked vs the Lions, he did NOT choke vs the Cooley’s own team, the  Redskins, and in fact is almost soley responsible for the 3rd and 21 that beat the Redskins…. so go chock on that one, Chris Cooley?
